Hi there,

My name is Matthew, and I am a musician, husband to Lois, and Christ-follower who has been immensely impacted by the songs I’ve sung (and continue to sing) in church. For that reason, I’ve worked to compose, arrange, record, and lead God’s people in singing hymns and psalms that are musically-compelling and Scripturally-edifying. You can check out my full-length recorded works below, along with other singles on all streaming platforms. Thanks for being here!

Psalms for Singing Vol. 1

A collection of psalm-settings from Crown & Covenant Publications’ psalters. These psalm-settings are typically sung a cappella in the RPCNA tradition, but I’ve created these arrangements for broader church use.

Recorded at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, this album was inspired by my wife humming and singing hymn tunes around the house, each of which served as a beautiful reminder to the truths of the hymn-texts.

Fingerstyle hymns vol. II

After such a positive response to my first instrumental record, I decided to follow it up with another collection of hymn-tunes. I was thrilled to be joined by guitarists Phil Keaggy and Spence Peppard on this project.

“The Psalms are the foundational book of Christian worship and piety…

They permeate the ancient liturgies of the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches, and Protestants have, until relatively recently, seen them as the way to sing praise to God and to inform their public and private prayers. Yet the use of psalms in public worship has been marginalized in recent centuries and is often now seen as the eccentricity of a few small Presbyterian denominations. What a tragedy for the church - that such God-inspired riches have been moved to the realm of private devotion. Given this, it is always encouraging to hear of projects which aim to bring the psalms back to the doxological center of the church's life. And this project (Matthew David Montgomery’s “Psalms for Singing” record) aims to do just that. I hope its resources encourage and enable churches and families to place the psalter back at the center of Christian praise, public and private.”
